Cold Days in June

The early June heat wave has transitioned to a few cool days with highs in the 60s, it is enough to get the fanatical steelheader to fantasize about steelies in the Lake Erie tributaries. However, it would be just that -- a fantasy.

There is no summer run in the Lake Erie tribs because the rivers are practically boiling by mid-summer -- or early June this year. It doesn't help that development of shopping malls, office parks and subdivisions in our watersheds have turned cool feeder creeks into stagnant ditches.

Nonetheless, a few cool days can get my hopes up. Or at least distract me from the long summer and get me thinking about the September that is ahead. Labor Day isn't that far away.
